Ready to be a Big Sis

About a week and half ago we took Kylee to a new sibling class at the hospital. It was just a short, 30 minute session with her and one other kid, but Kylee loved it and was super excited about being in "big sister school."

Every morning Kylee tells me she is ready for Makenna to come so she can hold her. One day last week Kylee tried to keep me from getting out of the shower. I told her the water was getting cold and that I didn't want to get too cold and get sick. Her reply was "I want mommy to get sick and go to the doctor." I, of course, asked why she wanted me to be sick. She responded "mommy get sick and mommy have to go to the doctor and then the doctor will get baby Makenna out." Pretty good logic for a 2 year old. :)
I am glad that Kylee is as anxious as I am for baby Makenna to arrive but am still nervous about how she will take it when Makenna actually does come home....and stays.

Crafts with Carrie

The past month or so Kylee and Carrie have been getting together once a week for a special activity. We've been alternating between crafts and outings. So far, the girls have made valentines, played at the mall, painted bird houses, strung cheerios for bird feeders (which the girls ended up eating), and played at McDonalds.

Stacey & Dale's Wedding

Yesterday we went to Stacey and Dale's wedding/reception at the Medicine Park Music Hall. We had such a great time! After a super short, outdoor ceremony we went inside for a family dinner. Much to Kylee's excitement, they served BBQ brisket and green beans, two of her all time favorites. We had about an hour and a half break after that before the big reception. The weather was gorgeous! So, we spent most of our time outside walking around the pond. Kylee kept saying "I love outside!" She was particularly excited about the geese. Unlike the ones at Elmer Thomas, these geese were super calm/tame. We were able to get really close without being attacked. After our walk, Kylee and Isaac chased each other around the reception area before the guests arrived. I'm pretty sure that was the highlight of her week. Kylee also had a lot of fun at the reception and was quite the dancing queen.

Playing Catch Up

Between preparing for the baby, the computer crashing, and the whole family getting sick, I've gotten really behind on the blog. So.....here are a few random highlights from the past couple weeks:

I finally took Kylee to her 2 year-old check up. Her ears are clear (woohoo!!!), and everything else looks great as well. Based on her current BMI and her growth curve to this point, Dr. Legako predicts that she will be short (duh!) with a thin build.

Last Friday our playgroup had a belated Valentine's party. Kylee had fun decorating a cookie and searching for Valentine's hearts hidden around the house.

We haven't seen Rikki and Charli as much lately as we used to. Last week, they came over for the first time in awhile. Kylee and Charli had obviously missed each other and were beyond ecstatic to see each other again. The girls' play is getting more sophisticated. They play cooperatively now and are really getting into pretend play. It's a riot to watch.

This weekend we were all super sick with a stomach bug. Even though Kylee was sick herself, she tried to take care of me. She was in the bathroom when I started throwing up. She left and returned with a bottle of water. She handed it to me and then patted me on the back and said "Here mommy. This will help you feel better." So sweet!
Today we finally had some nice weather. Vickie stopped by, and we took Kylee to the park around the corner. It's been so long since we've been there. This was the first time Kylee went down all the big slides by herself.

Big Sister Practice

Last week I got to babysit baby Kate while her mom took big sis to the doctor. Kylee had a great time practicing her big sister skills, and overall, she did really well with the baby. As soon as Kate's mom left, Kylee stroked Kate's cheek and told her "It's ok baby Kate. Mommy took Carrie to the doctor but mommy be back."
I had fun trying out all our new baby gear. Kate was a great sport about it all and slept through most of the excitement.
