This afternoon I took Kylee for her 2nd dental check up. We got there early and spent about 30 minutes in the waiting room. Kylee did amazing! There were 2 older kiddos (early primary age) that were being a little ornery, but Kylee was a complete angel. I was so proud of her! When hygienist came out and called her name, Kylee hopped down from the chair, put her book back on the shelf, grabbed her hand, smiled and sweetly said "Hi lady! I'm Kylee. I'm ready for my turn." She climbed right up into the big chair. She happily agreed to wear the big, heavy x-ray apron and was even super cooperative as the hygienist tried 4 times to squeeze the film into her tiny mouth. The film made her gag, and she politely said "Excuse me. I'm going to choke." At this point, I was pretty well beaming with pride over how well behaved she had been. The hygienist gave up on the x-rays and showed Kylee all of the special cleaning tools she was going to use. Thats when the silliness began. Kylee suddenly became 'Isaac' (who apparently doesn't need to brush his teeth) and insisted that she needed to slide down the chair (which I have to admit is shaped very slide-like). She acted very goofy and absolutely refused to sit still or to open her mouth. Very frustrating. They were unable to do any cleaning, not even with a regular toothbrush. :(
Kylee was a little more cooperative when the dentist came in. She cried a little during the 2 minute exam but she at least sat still and opened her mouth. Dr. Jackson reported that she has all of her baby teeth and that none have any visible decay. Unfortunately, he can't tell for sure if she's cavity - free without x-rays.
